How to visit Ayodhya | order of visiting Ayodhya
In Skanda purana, Agasthya muni explains the order in whihc Ayodhya should be visited.
Agasthya muni says, Taking bath in Manasa (mental) tirthas and becoming mentally pure is very important before any pilgrimage.
These are the 7 manasa thirthas -
- Satyatirtha (Truthfulness)
- Kshamaatirtha (Forbearnace)
- Indriya nigraha (Restraint of sense organs)
- Sarva bhuta dayaa tirtha (Mercy to all living beings)
- Satyavaadita (Spreaking the truth)
- Gyanatirtha (Knowledge)
- Tapastirtha (Penance)
Mind gets pure in the tirtha of mercifulness to all living beings.
Agasthya explains in detail of the orer in which variopus places in Ayodhya has to be visited.
- Get up early in the morning and take bath in confluence (Sangamam)
- Visit vishnuhari
- Take bath in Brahma kunda
- Take bath in chakra thirtha
- Visit Chakrahari
- Visit Dharmahari
He continues detailing the following. (Not clear if the following is to be done on next day)
- Get up early, take bath in Svargadvara
- Perform daily duties, visit ayodhya
- See sarayu river
- Visit Vira - Elephant in Rut
- See Bandi, Shitala, Batuka
- Take holy bath in the lake there and see Mahaavidya
- Visit Pindaaraka, then see bhairava (best benefit on Ashtami and
- chaturdasi)
- On chaturthi (4th day), visit above mentioned temples
- Then visit vigneswara
- Get up in the morning, take plunge in Brahmakunda
- Visit Vishnu, Vishnuhari, Mantreswara, Mahavidya (in same order)
- Then visit ayodhya
Visiting ayodhya on ekadasi day after visiting sarayu leads to auspiciousness
